Orla Gartland Covers “Skinny Love”

As we all know, I hate female vocalists.  And unfortunately, YouTube is covered with a bunch of really mediocre ones.  On my everlasting quest to find new music, I stumbled upon Orla Gartland.

This young girl with a gorgeous accent sits in front of a yellow wall, plays guitar, and sings.  Doesn't sound too special.  The only thing that caught my attention was that she did a cover of "Skinny Love", and I've been wicked into Bon Iver lately.

I'm not one for vulgarity, but there aren't enough words in my school-appropriate vocabulary to express how incredible this cover is.  I'll do my best.  Jesus Christ on a bagel this girl is talented.  Her guitar skills are phenomenal; she plays so passionately and with the confidence of a seasoned pro.  She's got the strumming pattern down, and she can play something complicated whilst still singing perfectly.

Her voice?  How do I even begin.  Greatest female singer I've heard…ever.  It flows so gorgeously, her range is flawless.  Orla's accent and pronunciation gives the cover a sense of originality.  Not a single part is choppy or unsure- she hits the marks, emphasizes everything beautifully.  She has the voice of an old soul.  Looking at her, it's most certainly not the sound you would expect.  It's careful and lovely and matured.  I adore it.  It absolutely gave me chills.  Listening to it now, I've got goosebumps.

This is the best cover of the tune I've heard, and there are hundreds.  She put so much into it, and you can feel the passion.

Orla Gartland is the greatest musician on YouTube.
