Upcoming Woodie Guthrie Centennial Celebration Concerts

When you're a legend your birthday isn't just 'a day' and when you're a legend with a century done- hell you get to celebrate for a year.  The concerts are part of a year-long celebration made up of performances, conferences, festival tributes and programs. Brought to you by the Grammy Museum in partnership with the Guthrie Family/Woody Guthrie Publications, Inc., and the Woody Guthrie Archives here are some more concerts to look out for with some interesting players.

There are three remaining “This Land Is Your Land Celebration Concerts”.  One is in Florida but two are North East, the closest is Brooklyn.

Penn State University on Sept. 8 with a conference, titled “Woody at 100: Woody’s Legacy To Working Men & Women,” in addition to the concert at Eisenhower Auditorium in University Park, Pa.  The concert lineup features Bob Weir and Rob Wasserman, Steve Forbert, Tom Paxton, Janis Ian, Toshi Reagon, Melanie, Sarah Jarosz and Ben Sollee.

New York City’s Brooklyn College is also hosting a concert as well as a conference, titled “Welcome Back Woody: A Guthrie Centennial Celebration.” Both events take place Sept. 22. Held at Brooklyn College’s Whitman Theater, the NYC concert includes performances from Arlo Guthrie, Judy Collins, Billy Bragg, Tony Trischka, Steve Earle, The Klezmatics, John Cohen & The Dust Busters, Mike & Ruthy, and Jay Hungary & Molly Mason.

 BILLY BRAGG??? Go for that reason alone!!!
