1. His Eye Is On The Sparrow – Whitney Houston – If there is nothing else in the vaults, better this Gospel vamp than the godawful Jordin Sparks duet! Her voice certainly wasn't what it was, but it has a rasp in its undercurrent that is very powerful – Grade: B+

2. Laura – Bats For Lashes – Best line: "Your name is tattoed on every boy's skin" Grade: A-

3. Fetieki Lie – The Rohu Band – The horns on this great Ethiopian band from the 1980s is somewhere between soul and disco and the voice the sound of soul but not Black American soul – Grade: A

4. That's Just What You Are – Aimee Mann – Back when she did over fucking arrange everything – Grade: A

5. Lady Marmalade – Irma Thomas – New Orlaneas soul… kitchy kitchy koo – Grade: B

6. Get Free – Major Lazer – This is as original as dance gets, its fused with soul and Brooklyn indie – Grade: B+

7. I'm Not Okay… I Promise – My Chemical Romace – Back before Gerard came to the mistaken conclusion he played garage rock and blew it big time – Grade: A+

8. Lord Knows – Dum Dum Girls – They still suck live, but this starts as a Sonic Youth-y reverb before becoming a pretty good power pop song – Grade: B

9. Teenage Icon – The Vaccines – Finally some new stuff which sounds amazingly like the old stuff – Grade: B

10.  Oh Love – Green Day – This is just the worst – Grade: D+
