New Green Day Single “Oh Love” Reviewed (Plus listen to it!!)

Remember that Rolling Stone interview where Billie Joe Armstrong are sitting at an open air cafe supping beers on Sunset Street. The car drives by and a man opens his window and shots, "Hey, Green Day suck". Armstrong leaps out of his chair and chases the car to the it stops and a traffic light. He jumps into the passenger and pummels the critic.

And if "Oh Love", the first single off the soon to be released green day album (one of three) Uno, is anything to go by, Billie Joe better get into fighting trim because he is going to be jumping into many a stationary vehicle over the next coupla months.

The opening lick is nicked from "All Of My Love" and the first couplet quotes from Quadrophenia, as the songs idles in neutral till a killer instrumental break at the three quarter. If Billie Joe had made the break the chorus and cut the length from 5 to two and a half minutes, he might have had something.

As is, this is sub-Who, the group Power Pop bands steal from in the elephants'a graveyard where punk bands go to die.

An unmitigated disaster, I sincerely hope Billie Joe has something better than this up his sleeve.
