Every time the Black Lips have a new video, I just expect a lot of fun and plenty of craziness and I haven’t been disappointed so far. However, this new one for their song ‘Noc-A-Homa’ off their last ‘Arabia Mountain’, has a serious and strong message.
It is supposed to be a homage to Chief Noc-A-Homa, the former and beloved mascot of the Baseball Team of their hometown, the Atlanta Braves. At first, it may appear totally politically incorrect – however a native American mascot performing a war dance at each home run was not what I would call glorifying – but the flower-punk band actually were on a mission to save the fallen Indian. In the video, Chief Noc-A-Homa is going through harsh time, living in the streets like a homeless man, beaten down by delinquent and abusive baseball players, but finally taking a revenge to find a new dignity.
The video was directed by Sandy Kim and you can watch it below, and please don't tell me it is racist!
