1. Give That Bass Player Some, Part One – James Brown – In 1979, Brown was zig zagging between hard business as usual funk and synth based disco funk and here the real thing won, though the chick backup singers may have been a balm to the age – Grade: B+

2. We Can't Have Nice Things – Kelly Hogan – A big song off what may well be a big big album. AOR singer songwriter by a woman who shoulda broke in the 1990s, killing on a smooth jazz blues work out – Grade: A

3. Without You – Frank Ocean – That's the great Stacey Barthe taking over vocals – Grade: A-

4. Radiator Sister – The Mynabirds – Very catchy pop song with a fine keyboards hook makes you forgive the economic worries by a woman who will get no closer to a breadline than singing about it.. Shame the rest of the album isn't this light handed – Grade: A-

5. Paradise City – Tom Cruise – Better than your average cover band – Grade: C

6. Express Yourself – Diplo (feat Nicky da B) – Nothing better than the rat-a-ta-t drums all over one of the tracks – Grade: B+

7. Doesn't Anybody Know – Bobby Brown – So now he can't blame the drugs any more, what's the excuse? – Grade: C-

8. The Private Life Of Bill And Sue – The Beach Boys – Like being migged by a lollipop… but in a good way – Grade: B+

9. Sixteen, Fifteen, Fourteen – PJ Harvey – Lick her legs and she's on fire – Grade:A

10. Some Nights – fun. – Have they released this as a single yet? – Grade: A
