Sins: In May of 2011, I saw fun. live at the Webster Theater in Hartford, CT and I saw at that performance a stage presence like nothing I had ever seen before. fun. was vivacious, enthusiastic, and their energy was contagious. I again witnessed such energy while watching the music videos for fun.’s songs “We Are Young ft Jenelle Monae” and, more recently, “Some Nights”. But now, having seen fun/ perform their song “One Foot” on Jimmy Kimmel Live, I am even more blown away.
Magpie: I recently became…obsessed… with fun. I'd always been a casual listener but started listening to them more and fell in love. When I heard that they were going to be on Jimmy Kimmel Live, I instantly contacted the Sins and he and I braced ourselves for the excitement.
Sins: fun. exploded on that stage in a way that they haven’t previously done. The most enthusiastic of the band was was lead vocalist Nate Ruess who stood still for the 20 second slow part in the middle of the song, that’s it. When the song started, he started moving and he just did not stop. I have to commend him for being able to deliver such a great performance while still doing more exercise on stage than I do in a month. Though unable to flail about the stage like Nate, the two guitarists on stage had just as much energy while still producing a great sound. The best pictures of the performance were moments where Nate was in the center of the stage jumping around with the guitarists goin ham on either side of him. What a stunning show.
Magpie: I absolutely adore the tune "One Foot". It's one of the best on Some Nights not only because of its' catchy beat, but also because of the lyrics. Especially the slow bridge: "Lucky that my father's still alive- he's been fighting all his life." This passionate line didn't lose any of the feeling that you hear on the record. Nate's facial expressions and intense movement made him the star of the show. He really knows how to entertain a crowd. Even the guitarists were rocking out and the whole band had smiles on their faces. I couldn't help but smile, too.
We love fun.
