Civil War At rock nyc!!!
Civil War At rock nyc!!!

OK, I've had it with co-editor Helen Bach and Chief Writer Alyson Camus. Enough of their guff. In separate posts here yesterday, Helen and Alyson took my soft spots to task and THEY WERE BOTH WRONG!

First, Helen did a hit job on Scissor Sisters, dubbing them disco wannabes. ell, no, not exactly. They might mine glam rock, pre-Duran Duran, indeed, pre Chic, disco to consistently mindblowing effect, But the drums are in the center not the bottom of their sound and the aesthetic is almost definably post-modern. They are like a so far out they're in Bee Gees and every time they seem to be treading water they arem't at all. I agree, Night Moves is the masterpiece, but Scissor Sisters can only go so far wrong.

Next, Alyson complained that the most popular songs on Spotify are the most popular songs on ITunes and, if she had checked, Billboard's Hot 100. Well, of course it is.,. that's the definition of a pop chart: iffun. are big on Billboard they are big everywhere. And as for the complaint about radio programing. that has nothing to do with streaming music, nothing to do with Spotify, and began in earnest around the early 1990s. Incidentally, if you don't like Terrestial radio, get Sirus about it.

So sucks to both of them!

  1. I dont care if the drums are in my wazoo the tune is a dance fever spandex jumpsuit atrocity.

  2. By the way, when did I turn Chief writer?

  3. I knew you would contradict me, but you know what? You are right in a way, songs that are big are big everywhere, just because people largely influence each other, it is proven. And I believe that Facebook is largely responsible of that,… if I am your friend on FB or another social media, I know what music you are listening to, and I will be influenced.
So a song becomes popular because of people’s mutual influences, and so they are sheep, and I’m right!
