Afrobeta “Do You Party” Video, Reviewed

How does one even begin totalk about Afrobeta’s new music video for their song “Do You Party”? Probably by recognizing the fact that it is a video stoners everywhere will love. Not only is this a trippy song with an infectious beat, but the video makes absolutely no sense, yet it is still one of the greatest music videos I’ve ever seen. It comprises of clips of Lamb Chop, hand puppet and a star of The Shari Lewis Show in the mid 1960’sand the kid’s TV show, Lamb Chop's Play-Along in the 1990’s. She’s a sassy, feisty, child like character who spent many years on TV with her puppet master, the fantastic Shari Lewis.

Lamb Chop would have been a bit before my time had I not grown up with a couple video tapes of Lamb Chop episodes and a little stuffed Lamb Chop that sang. So, when I started watching the “Do You Party”, I was surprised to say the least but, overall, very entertained. With Lamb Chop being a character from children’s shows, you wouldn’t expect her to be in the video for a song about hitting on girls at a party but yet she is perfect in the video.

It is hilarious watching clips of Lamb Chop rearranged, slowed down, or sped up to have the puppet’s mouth move along to the words of the song and seeing Lamb Chop dancing around as both a puppet and a full body costume suit. Seeing the silly, funky personality that is Lamb Chop set to the music of Afrobeta makes for great entertainment and I am of the opinion that if this song is ever played at parties, the video should be shown as well so that everyone can get down with Lamb Chop.
