Must See: Active Child At Bowery And Mercury

I am not exagerating: this guy, Pat Grossi of Active child, is something amazing. Imagine Bon Ivers + Eric Contractor, and that will give you an idea of the weirdly, heavenly Active Child.

This music is so intensely beautiful it took me entirely surprise. Listening to it because a PR company asked me to, I expected to give it a coupla minutes and move on. Pat has a beautiful soprano to falsetto voice with a disquieting edge. he sounds like he is haunting his own songs.

The album, You Are All i See, dates from 2011 but I missed it completely, now I am listening to it, and I am baffled by it.

Pat said: " "You Are All I See is an attempt to build a bridge between the listener and I, in that, I wrote these songs for you as much as I did for me. And right now when you are listening to my voice, by yourself, it really is just you and I.” The album itself focuses primarily on the joy and heartbreak of relationships; from the harsh realities of love lost and rediscovered, the struggles to remain monogamous, to the battles with one’s identity.'

A bit pretentious but he pays it off nicely.

Mercury Lounge on friday is sold out, but the Beacon on Thursday is still available.

This is big time stuff. A must see.
