McKinley Dixon “Youth” Ft Preach Ankobia and Malika Troken Reviewed

Smooth, soulful, and energetic; this is only a meek summation of what Maryland rapper McKinley Dixon’s new single “Youth” sounds like. This song seriously made me want to drive down an open freeway in the sunset with an ice cold Arizona Iced Tea in my hand.

Do not hesitate to make note of this now, reader, sixteen year old McKinley Dixon will soon rise into the game, probably becoming the youngest, smoothest and most dedicated MC to slip into the music world.  I’m glad I discovered him, because this kid is brilliant when it comes to music, and has great diligence.

“Youth” is simply marvelous. Not only does the song represent Dixon as the kind of musician he is, it also brings back a cool old school vibe that has been neglected for a long time. Right when the song begins, the momentum is enhanced by the powerful clash of cymbals. There is a great fusion of soft piano, velvet-smooth assortment of drum rhythms, and polished vocals throughout the song. “Youth” is very peaceful, but at the same time, exhorts a great amount of spirit and exhilaration, creating a relaxed atmosphere. I can probably compare his passionate and soulful sound to that of Seattle based rapper Grieves, but McKinley would most likely disagree with me, he's quite modest at times.

McKinley has become a good friend of mine and has shown great persistence in his work and growth in his music. “Youth” symbolizes adolescent dreams and opportunities to shine; a positive vibe indeed. With songs about achieving greatness and using creativity to succeed, McKinley will immediately connect with his fans and will be a lasting impression on them.

McKinley is currently in the studio working on his first upcoming EP, featuring artists like Jonny Craig and Dae Bryson and Joel Faviere of Get Scared. I’m definitely looking forward to it!
