McKinley Dixon “Free Fall (Part 2)” Feat. Blackbear-Free Download

I love when music is actually free on purpose-I don't feel as bad as I would if I stole it unprofessionally. But anyway, I spotted this track, luckily, on a friend's Facebook status (who's music taste I trust), and immediately pressed play.

My ears perked; what came out of my speakers was this smooth, luscious sound that was wrapped gently around my conscience. Okay, a little theatrical I know, but you get my appreciation for this song.

At just sixteen years old, McKinley Dixon, an Annapolis, Maryland native, can sure throw beats together like nothing, and create a powerful, professional sounding song. It takes a lot of confidence to put yourself out there as a younger musician, especially when there's always someone criticizing you, picking at your flaws from left to right. But for the first single off his new EP, McKinley certainly makes a good impression, and is on his way to perfecting his own hip-hop-alternative style of music.

Don't get caught up with the pop-like beginning of the song, this isn't some fluffy pop track you'd hear on the radio. If you listen closely, the song expresses a dream that cannot be shattered, no matter how many demons try to destroy it. A young man with ambitions, and recognizing the strength he has within himself to become the best he can be. Mat Musto, also known as Blackbear, who has recently collaborated with Mike Posner and Machine Gun Kelly, helped produce "Free Fall (Part 2)" and sang the lovely vocals for the chorus.

Being young musician, it's easier to connect with fans and relate to them on a whole. I think 2012 can be a big year for McKinley. There's great substance in his music and, with enough effort, he can definitely establish a place for himself as a musician. He has an ear for great rhythms and funky beats, and his knowledge can take him far.
