Vampire Weekend Contra-ry Wise by Iman Lababedi
Vampire Weekend Contra-ry Wise by Iman Lababedi
I am guessing if you are reading this blog you don’t need me to retell how the model on the cover of Vampire Weekend’s first rate current album Contra is suing the band saying her signature was forged on the release.
The model, one Kristen Kennis, is suing the band for 2M (they sold 500,000 copies Kristen, not 50 Million -set your sights lower).
Kennis is reportedly a model but if she has ever modeled anything other than the shirt on the cover I am yet to see it (and I looked).
But this story doesn’t even boil down to whether she signed the release or didn’t sign the release. The story boils down to whether Vampire Weekend’s MANAGEMENT (even their record label XL) performed true diligence in ascertaining that the signature was real.
According to Brooklynvegan “She lives in Fairfield, CT, and most interestingly, she claims Tod didn’t even take the picture. Her real last name doesn’t even appear in the contract Vampire Weekend signed when they bought it. The allegedly forged/fake contract is with “Kirsten Johnsen” and signed by “Kirsten Johnson” (yes, the document has the last name spelled two different ways).
Now that may be a real problem for VW.
