I am a big fan of the ‘underground’ I take great pride in saying Ive seen bands in crappy venues before they make it. So every year I make it a personal mission to consume as much undiscovered music as possible. Most times i find some real gems.. Elotheos is one. But I also find giant buckets of garbage.
Im finally can announce my Worse Indy Show of the Year Award..2009.
Haste The Day Bridgeport CT 10/30/09
I have never in my entire long long life of concert viewing seen a more pathetic array of talentless testosterone.
Haste the Day was promised to be an ‘amazing show’ it was so far from amazing it was disgusting.
Lets start it off by saying that HTD formed in 2001…….Eight years later theyre still playing Church basements. Does that give you a clearer picture? I had never heard them I went in semi clear headed I was pumped to see the venue (a horror packed inner city church surrounded by crack houses and ho’s!! AWESOME!) The problem with HTD could be the singer. I dont like being preached to but I expected to be considering this was Christian Core.. but what a disrespectful fuck spits on the floor of a church as he preaches? I swear to you it took all I could not to jump on that stage and pound the hell out of the arrogant bastard. I hope he has a good education, rich parents or a girl with a nice office job, either that or I hope the bastard sees the light one day. He can go sit in the Bono room.. wait… hes not even worth that.
HTD was preceded by 4 other bands that were nothing but same ol same ol gutteral yelling, a bit of eye candy as the lead singer of Heal These Wounds has Justin Furstenfelds eyes (wooooop!)..BUT WAIT… after almost wanting to throw myself into the quasi mosh pit.. (which at times was so poorly formed i thought it was a Jazzercise class) and the last opener before HATE THE DAY slathered on to the stage was a …. why yes indeed Helen… you found one
I found something to like!
No Less Than Everything.
I cut and pasted this from their myspace: (call the web sherriff!!)
“No Less Than Everything is a melodic metal band from southern Connecticut that formed in June of 2003. The band is led by Jason Crumb on vox, Dave Celozzi and Gary Crumb on guitars, Mike Jackson on drums, and Tom Hawes on bass. With influences such as Zao, Norma Jean, and Living Sacrifice they bring an old school groove combined with a touch of new school chaos, while at the same time sustaining a melodic element to their sound. Drummer Mike Jackson adds more color to the spectrum with the subtleties of Latin jazz and African tribal rhythms. No Less Than Everything brings a passion and intensity to the stage that creates an intoxicating atmosphere. Combine that energy with sincerity in every word sung and you will see that they are not only there to entertain you, but to reach you. The bands main focus is to give their listeners a sense of hope, in a world where we could all use a little.”
and guess what.. they werent arrogant hypocrites. These are regular guys who need a break. Im convinced that they are family men with day jobs and a dream. I have not been to an underground gig and watch a band that was so cohesive and yeah perhaps the 3 bro’s help with that but thats not all.Maybe they arent all flash and ‘tude. They are talent and sincerity. They are unique and powerful. Mid way through the show I wanted to freakin SCREAM a thank you to them. THANK YOU for renewing my faith in this entire sub catagory of bullshit. Theyre the real deal!! HURRRAYYYYY
Iman you mentioned readership is up.. Im making a personal plea.. I want the NYC Hardcore scene to experience these guys. Im making it a mission to promote them and hell hath no fury like me…
So listen up…
Haste the Day should be wiping No Less Than Everythings spit off the floor……..No wait………NLTE are far too cool to stoop that low
Rock on guys, thank you for making my night.

^^that person is my hero
First off I'd like express that this is the worst hate rant I've ever heard in my life. 2nd, do some RESEARCH on some of the bands that you clearly don't know squat about. AKA Tom Hawes from NLTE plays guitar NOT Bass! This band you that CLAIM to love and admire who don't get me wrong, great guys, amazing music and definitely deserve more recognition… that you comepletely over look what hardcore shows or shows in general are about. I could understand that the average person would come to this show expecting some "better" bands, but what happened to just a bunch of kids wanting to play music that they love to play and just go nuts go out the window? It's people like YOU who make promoters and these kids who put all their hearts into this music feel subpar and not worthy to do what they do. I understand this is the internet and this is what it's for (which clearly you abuse like every other person who seems to think that their opinion is the most important) but I love how you express your opinion as what I would compare to a 16 year old girl who was dragged to a hardcore show when their favorite band is on top 40 radio.Next, your harsh and clearly stereotypical opinion of Bridgeport and the area that surrounds the venue was also uncalled for. You're bashing of the area where people live is pretty much a slap in the face to the people from that area. You have a better chance getting shot outside of the webster in hartford, then getting shot on church grounds. You make the "basement" of this church sound like the deep pit of a house in a horror film. The hall's capacity is at 400 people and there's a NICE Stage! And finally your opinion of Haste The Day…WHAT A LOW BLOW! I've looked up to Haste The Day for a VERY long time and not to mention who I've seen multiple times along side bands such as All That Remains, Through The Eyes Of The Dead and As I Lay Dying… So where do you get off on this? Also, where do you get off calling them "Arrogant Hypocrites" when I'm sure that you have no affiliation with Christianity what so ever, so your opinion by default holds no ground. Preaching? Really? All they did was clearly express what they write about and what they believe. No different from Earth Crisis talking about being Vegan and Straight edge or any other band that stands by their word. So in closing as I end my Review of your "Review", you have no right to judge these bands for what they do and how they go about it, so the next time you decide to spread a bunch of lies, be an adult and have a well put together opinion.
I am actually good friends with the crumb brothers. And I completely agree with this review. I love seeing that this band has a core so strong because it is literally a family bond. They really are family guys that work normal daytime jobs and still find time to keep this band rolling. They really never cease to amaze me. If you visit their myspace, you could read their lyrics and understand their passion expressed through their songs. Their talent seems endless. And the most amazing part is how original they are. Like how they bring all these musical background together to create their sound. It's a shock to me how they aren't signed yet, but I could promise with more exposure like this, they will pull through and become huge.
is anonymous a real name?
Is this a real review?
the talentless testerone comment threw me…
oh I wasnt complaining about it being fueled with testosterone, rather that it was not up to par. Hell I go to hardcore shows FOR the testosterone fuel!
ive never heard haste the day myself but complaining about hardcore being testerone fueled is a little obtuse -i mean, isn't that the point, Helen?
oh yea…& about the "still performing in church basements" thing…see, they are currently on tour with The Devil Wears Prada & All That Remains and have performed countless summer music festivals such as Warped Tour & Bamboozle, just go on YouTube & search "Haste The Day live"…it's always a good idea to research a band before writing a review on them…at least listen to their albums at the very least.
"I have never in my entire long long life of concert viewing seen a more pathetic array of talentless testosterone." oh really??? Haven't you ever seen Blue October live???
